Filmmaking on celluloid

Jon O’Brien is a filmmaker who specialises in motion picture film. Jon is pretty unique in that regard, up here in Queensland.

He’s an active film camera operator with his own 16mm and 35mm gear. He’s professionally trained.

He started at the age of 13, with Super 8. He lives on the Sunshine Coast.

Film is better for narrative, especially on the big screen. It is completely different to digital, despite what many say.

It’s warm and artistic. Film has texture, richness, and unmistakable depth.

Film has cinematic ‘true grit.’ It also has a dreamlike ability to effortlessly transport you to other worlds, and to other times.
